G'day! Australians, or Australian passport holders, require a visa to enter Mozambique. The safest option is to apply for a preliminary visa on www.evisa.gov.mz at least 2 weeks before travelling to Mozambique. This latest system was introduced in February 2026 The cost of the visa 9.837,00 MZN (about $155USD) PLUS the VFS service fee of about $30USD. This amount is payable on applicatin and if your visa is denied the fee is non refundable.
In this application you will need to upload copies of your documents, bank statements, and accommodation reservations. If accepted you will receive an electronic preliminary visa that you can present when arriving in Mozambique.
This is the cheapest option for an Australian to visit Mozambique and is valid for 30 days. Some travellers take the risk of getting the visa on arrival to save on the VFS fee, however this is very risky an not recommended. Most airlines will not let you board a flight to Mozambique without the preliminary visa.
There are also options for 60 and 90 days that are twice and three times more expensive respectively.
